A media story is that major corporations, including even the high-tech ones in Silicon Valley, have become a rare sight on college campuses. Few are arriving to interview students for jobs. That's supposed to be a sign of hard times.
Well, we Baby Boomers had lived through both our hard times and the bursts in affluence. We knew not to count on jobs coming to us, not in downturns and not in booms. We had the vestiges of the hustler from the days when our families were blue collar and lived from paycheck to paycheck.
Can we mentor Generation Y about how to go out there and get it? Mindsets have been changed before. They can be changed now.
