On "Mayberry R.F.D." and "Matlock," Andy Griffith created characters which have become embedded in our national consciousness. That was the golden age of television.
Back then those characters lacked the complexity and darkness of a Don Draper and Water White. But America was doing well in her economy and we would take simple and mostly sunny.
In return for entertaining us, Griffith had been rewarded with a long life. He died at the age of 86.
