The 800-pound gorilla on Hillary Clinton's political back is her age. That's a reality. Like Ronald Reagan she might be able to bypass it, if she decides to run for president in 2016. What we do know for sure, as THE NEW YORK TIMES reports, is that the GOP is quite aware it could play that age card and that could be the end of her.
Why conservatives are cautious about undermining her on the basis of age is that, if the 50-year-old incumbent Barack Obama screws up, an elder statesman type might come across as attractive. Since it is a long time until election day in 2016, the GOP has to be continue to be careful about Clinton's age. Politics is a volatile game. Not only the relatively young Obama could blow it. So could many other youthful conservatives. There could be an outcry for the deep experience Clinton has acquired.
