Professionals with authority and influence in their disciplines are hanging out on LinkedIn Updates. There they share observations, links to useful articles, likes of others' updates and comments.
On Updates just about anyone's voice can be heard, can resonate and can trigger plenty of attention. For example, GE's vice chair Beth Comstock shared an article on unlearning. Those of us who commented wound up not only participating in a general conservation. We interacted with each other. Unique opportunity to network.
No, Updates doesn't replace LinkedIn Pulse. That's where we post long form articles. But Updates seems to have greater reach than Pulse. For long form a better bet for high visibility might be Medium.com.
And, no, Updates shouldn't take the place of our hanging out on Twitter, Facebook and our own blogs.
Obviously, participating in social media is consuming more of our networking time. That seems to be the way it will be. It's become a must-do for professional survival. Never mind, reaching out for more.
