We have a number of options. We can attempt, for example, to smoothly get it back on track. However, the well has been poisoned and both we and the interviewer know that. Likely we will both just go through the motions.
Since, though, we have nothing to lose we might try the direct route. Incidentally, there is a trend in the process of a job search to request a do-over for interviews which did not go well. And, yes, they are being granted.
Instead of allowing the interview to continue on the wrong track, we can say in a relaxed manner something like this:
"I sense you might be frustrated with how this conversation is proceeding. Would it be helpful if we did a "do-over" right now and here. I think you would find it helpful to hear what I had accomplished for X company. Like your organization, it needed to increase sales quickly. How do you feel about that?"
Whole we were delivering that pitch we would maintain eye contact but not in an aggressive way.
Suppose the interviewer decides against our suggestion?
Then we remain poised and ask what other information can we give which would be helpful to the interviewer?
Later we can do an audit on the interview, assessing what seemed to be effective and what likely wasn't.
