Aging seems to be a level playing field in America.
Everyone on it is vulnerable to a ding to the career because of bias. That includes brandname artists such as Janice Jackson, Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez. All are now struggling to remain marketable.
For all three this is a crisis. Most of us less famous Baby Boomers have already been through that, perhaps several times.
What we discovered, if we wanted to continue earning a good living, is that we had to change with the marketplace. What had been the platforms for our previous success may have become irrelevant.
Then, after we did change, there was no getting comfortable. We had to remain vigilant about emerging developments.
Do I enjoy all this "growth?" Well, I can't ask myself that. I have to just accept what is. And what is is non-stop transition.
It's Janet Jackson, not Janice
