Kim Kardashian is among them. So are alert, ambitious college students who establish huge followings for their fashion sites on Instagram.
In the New York Post, Alexandra Steigrad reports that Vogue's September issue is a shadow of itself - in advertising pages, imagination, and reach. Supposedly, it had difficulty getting an A-lister to be on the cover. Beyoncé agreed only if she would tell her story in her own words.
The haughty tone and the inaccessible leadership of Vogue leave us with a bad taste in our mouth. The twin tragedies of 9/11 and The Great Recession pounded the reality: Life is tough.
To get through that tough we seek real human beings - people who are like us. Those at Vogue had filled the moat with alligators and pulled down the drawbridge.
No surprise, its parent - Conde Nast - is losing money and will continue to lose money throughout 2019. After that, it will take parachuting in outsiders to lead the corporation and specific titles for a turnaround to happen. Currently, it is a closed system.
In addition, Conde Nast announced that it is planning yet another lay off. That will flood the streets of major metro areas with more jobless editorial types.
