One very hot morning - it was 10 AM and already boiling on planet earth - I had had it.
A professional acquaintance was at it again: On Facebook, he had posted yet another expression, in photo and narrative, of how much he loved his wife.
I clicked Unfriend.
While I was at it, I deleted him from Twitter and LinkedIn.
Pre-Facebook, that kind of sentiment was personal. It was nicely expressed privately - husband to wife - through a $4.99 Hallmark card. That would go public at a 25th anniversary party when a hall was rented for relatives and friends to share in the joy for several hours.
With Facebook, anyone excessive about expressing emotion can mandate our attention + even anticipate a like and a comment.
I am no alone is having had it. During the past two years, monthly page views for Facebook have plummeted more than 4 billion. May the decline continue.
